The Arccos putter sensor is what you would call a major engineering challenge! All of our sensors detect impact, and as you can imagine out of all the clubs in the bag, the putter will generate the least amount of impact once struck. Whereas most putts are detected, some putts (e.g., tap-ins or downhill tricklers) may get missed on occasion.

Other conditions that could affect putt detection:

- Putter face material - a metal putter face may detect impact better than one with a soft insert

- Grip size - a smaller grip may detect better than a thicker grip

- Grip pressure - a lighter grip may detect better than a stronger grip

- Impact point on the putter face - a putt hit on the heel or toe will make a larger impact than one hit square in the center of the face

Because of this, we created our Smart Putt Detection machine learning algorithm, which works in tandem with the putter sensor. Smart Putt will automatically delete putts that it determines to be false positives, and add putts that it determines to have been missed by the sensor, such as tap-ins or even gimme putts.
