How much battery will Arccos use on my phone? Follow
iPhone: The average iPhone uses 40% of battery life during a 4-hour round with Arccos. Please note that the newer the iPhone, the longer a battery will last. Putting your iPhone in low power mode will also save battery during your round.
Android: The average Samsung S22 or S22+ uses approximately 40% battery during a 4-hour round.
For Android devices, the primary variables affecting battery life are the length of round played, age and quality of the phone, number of other apps running in the background, amount of screen time used during the round, etc.
If your phone's battery isn't making it through an entire round even when starting with a fully charged battery, here are 5 things you can try:
- Close other apps you aren't using. To do this, tap the overview button "square button" and then slide unwanted apps to the side to close.
- Reduce screen brightness. The brighter your screen is, the more quickly it will drain your battery. To change these settings, go to Settings > Display > Brightness (Note: the settings navigation may be slightly different depending on the Android phone you are using)
- Turn on screen timeout. If you leave the screen on in your pocket, it will drain the battery very fast. It is important to turn the screen timeout onto the shortest setting (typically 15 seconds). To change these settings, go to Settings > Display > Screen Timeout. (Note: the settings navigation may be slightly different depending on the Android phone you are using)
- Disable auto-rotate. To change these settings, go to Settings > Display and remove the checkmark next to Auto-Rotate
- Avoid using other apps during your round. Texting or emailing while Arccos is running will amplify battery consumption.
- Turn cellular data off during your round. As long as your course is downloaded beforehand, and Bluetooth is still on, you are able to play the round with cellular data off. No network requests will be made during your round, which will save battery life on your phone. All data stored on the phone during your round will be sent to our servers when you re-access a network connection. (Note: You can no longer use Arccos when an Android phone is in Airplane mode. The Android operating system no longer allows location services to function in airplane mode.)
Whereas Power Saving Mode will help save battery life for the iPhone. Unfortunately turning this setting on an Android phone will negatively affect the ability of the phone's GPS to work properly and generally make the Arccos app unusable. Please make sure to not turn this setting on while using the Arccos app.
We have found that Android users who have followed these guidelines typically experience about a 40-50% battery usage during an 18-hole round. If you have a Samsung phone, please make sure that accidental touch protection is turned on. Also, please beware of any stock lock screen apps as they can have an impact on pocket presses and battery drain.
