Understanding Strokes Gained

Strokes Gained (SG) is the most complete measure of golf performance available — it's the same system used by the PGA Tour, and it's at the core of how the new Arccos app evaluates your game. It compares every shot you hit against what a golfer at your goal handicap would be expected to do from the same position. Positive numbers mean you're gaining strokes in that area. Negative numbers mean you're losing strokes.

The four facets

Driving — Tee shots on par 4s and 5s — distance and accuracy combined.

Approach — Shots into the green from any distance.

Short Game — Chips, pitches, and bunker shots around the green.

Putting — All putts.

Trend arrows

Each facet card shows a trend arrow indicating whether that area of your game is improving or declining based on your selected round window.

Diving deeper

Tap any facet card to open the full detail page, which includes distance breakdowns, dispersion charts, club performance, and more — giving you a clear path from the number to the specific shots behind it.

Your SG numbers are relative to your goal handicap. Set a realistic goal handicap to get the most actionable read on where you stand.
